Water, motherf*cker!

Do you have any idea how many times I hear people say, "I hate water because it doesn't taste good"?  Also, do you have any idea how badly I want to fly into a raging fit, shaking said person by their shoulders once they say they prefer to hydrate themselves with Monster Energy or Mountain Dew and can't even remember their last time drinking a glass of water?  I know, a little across the line and why should I care what others are putting into their bodies?  I'll tell you why.  Because I really care about people too much.  I know it's a very hippie-sounding sentiment but I really see us all as one and if one person gets better, we all get better.  And I try to not come off as preachy or condescending when enthusiastically sharing knowledge, aware of the fact that nobody wants unsolicited judgment of their lifestyle.  But that's beside the point, drink water!

Did you know that without water, there would be no life on this planet?  Of course everyone knows that.  But people sure act like they don't.  Instead of getting into the science and details of what water has done for us, let's get into what not consuming water does to us.  It makes you stupid!  Just kidding, it only affects every part of your being.  When you operate in a lack of water, your blood becomes more concentrated.  When your blood becomes more concentrated, your heart must work harder to maintain blood pressure and your kidneys retain water, causing you to urinate less.  With less water in your blood, fluid in your brain tissue decreases and cells are not able to function at their normal capacity.  As result, you experience changes in your mood and memory as well as decreased attention and motor skills.  The list of adverse effects goes on for a while and effects may vary but if you really want more details, just Google bro!

You might say, "Well none of that applies to me, I feel great!"  Yeah, your brain might have you fooled into thinking how you feel is the norm.  The only thing I have to say about that is, stop consuming a pound of sugar a day and instead drink a gallon of water and then do a comparison.  I guarantee you will be amazed!  My guess is, most people don't feel as great as they say they do.  While lack of hydration might not show obvious symptoms, it's the quality of life decrease that is manifested through the bodily functions I mentioned before.  It is hard to get quality sleep when you dump sugar into your body all day long (sugar consumption being obviously a separate, lengthy topic).  It is hard to expel toxins from your body.  The kidneys are holding onto all the water they can because they don't know the next time their dumb owner is going to replenish them.  Toxins in the blood and brain can dictate your mood and the way you interact with the world daily.  The way you feel and approach the world dictates your life.  Drink water, have a better life!

But don't just take it from me!  If you are the least bit interested in what I've said, I encourage you to go do some reading for yourself.  Or better yet, try it for yourself!  I guarantee you will feel much better if you dedicated yourself to drinking more h2o.  If you're someone who doesn't like the taste, I suggest holding your nose and imagining it's (insert fav beverage here).  Or just get tough and pep yourself up, telling yourself "This is the Gatorade of the gods!  It is empowering you!"  And of course, moderation is key.  There is nothing wrong enjoying a treat now and then, beer and spirits not excluded.  You would be amazed at what trying new lifestyle habits will get you!  Take the water challenge and feel free to hit me up with results!  Happy drinking!
